Abstract:

The paper discusses the effects of Zn substitution on the switching and hysteresis loop properties of lithium ferrite cores. The Zn reduced the coercive force and thus permitted the use of smaller grains and hence faster switching time ts. The compositions investigated were Li0.5-x2ZnxFe2.5-x204 with x 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3. Samples were evaluated for grain sizes ranging from 1 to 6 microns. As the grain size was decreased, t sub s decreased and the required drive field H sub m increased. Over a substantial range of grain sizes, the decrease in t sub s was faster than the increase in H sub m. Also discussed are the effects of Zn substitution on the hysteresis loop squareness and temperature stability. Author
