Abstract:

The study is based on observations in the Black Sea by using records of current meter during the year 1961, 1962, 1963 and 1964 at the depths 10, 25, 50, 100, 200 and 500 meters. Statistical evaluation of 45 observations, lasting from 10 to 27 days, demonstrated that the currents of the Black Sea can be considered as quasistationary their predominant velocities, dispersion and correlational functions are time independent. The desirable duration of observation is dependent on depth for surface currents the optimum duration is 5-6 months, whereas for deeper currents 100 to 500m the time interval could be limited to 10 days.
