Abstract:

A time-dependent technique developed by the senior author for inviscid blunt body flows has been extended to compute blunt body flows with fully developed viscous effects. The Navier-Stokes equations are used. To maintain accuracy, the nonlinear mesh spacing is adjusted automatically to the nature of the velocity distribution between shock and body. In this way, a wide range of Reynolds numbers can be scanned. The technique proves to be very good in a range of Reynolds numbers between 100 and 100,000.
