Research was conducted on the relationship between cerebral monoamines and sleep and waking. This summary of work accomplished covers the following subjects Occipital and geniculate potentials recorded during eye movements in the unanesthetized cat Electrophysiological study of monoamines containing neurons of the brain stem A study of the relationship between monoamines containing neurons of the pons and the ponto geniculo-occipital activity recorded during sleep Neurophysiological and neuropharmacological studies of sleep in the rat Alteration of circadian rhythm of brain biogenic amines and sleep independent of light Neurochemical study of sleep Serotonin synthesis in insomniac cats.
