The report presents experimental results on two geologic materials, Solenhofen limestone and Westerly granite. Uniaxial, triaxial to 3 kbars confining pressure and biaxial stress tests using tubular specimens were conducted on the two materials at constant strain rates of 0.0001sec to 0.1second. From these tests fracture or yield as a function of mean normal pressure was determined as well as the stressstrain behavior. The work provides an insight into the general criteria of fracture and yielding of geologic materials and serves as a method of checking present material models being used in mathematical calculations involving geologic materials.
