Word Reading, Color Naming and Stroop Interference As a Function of Background Luminance.

Response times were recorded for six Ss while naming colors in conditions with and without interference to color naming and also while reading words. Processing rates of word and color information were manipulated by varying the background luminance of the color stimuli. Interference to color naming from incongruent color words was ascertained when word reading was fast relative to color naming and when the reverse was true. The relevance of this paradigm for the study of information processing is discussed. Author
