Research was directed towards the analysis of SO2SO3 ratios in jet exhausts at temperatures of 600C and Mach I gas streams. Spectral absorbance measuring techniques in the ultra violet region of the spectrum appeared to offer the best method of measurement. Equipment was designed and developed incorporating these techniques. Other aspects of jet exhausts were also investigated including contrail scattering and ionization effects. Equipment was also developed for the measurement of infrared radiation from a jet engine.
