Abstract:

The noise environment encountered by a seismic hydrophone array towed astern of the oceanographic research vessel, U.S.N.S. Lynch T-AGOR-7, was investigated as a function of cable scope 200, 400, and 800 feet and towing speed about 2, 5, 8, 10, and 12 knots. Third octave analysis 25 to 1000 Hz is presented. Some spectral lines are investigated by 6 analysis. The expected decrease in noise level with increasing cable scope and decreasing speed was not observed when the array passed from the seasonal thermocline into the layer. Author
