Abstract:

A method is described for the determination of atmospheric ozone. Ozone is collected in a solution of 1,2-di-4-pyridylethylene in chloroform giving pyridine-4-aldehyde which is estimated spectrofluorometrically using 2-diphenylacetyl-1,3-indandione-1-hydrozone. Pyridine-4-aldehyde may be used for calibration because the relationship between it and ozone in chloroform has been determined Other atmospheric contaminants do not interfere with the method. The method is extremely sensitive and can be used to estimate concentrations as low as 0.02 ppm ozone. Author
