Abstract:
The calculation is presented for the effective rigidity of the geomagnetic cutoff in the presence of the penumbra and the change in this rigidity according to detection of various components at geomagnetic latitudes of 30, 40, and 50 degrees. The calculations are made for satellite altitudes and in the atmosphere as follows for the neutron component at an altitude of 10 km, at mountain levels, and at sea level for the hard component at an altitude of 10 km, at sea level and underground at the depths of 3 and 7 meters water equivalent. Also found are the expected changes in the effective cutoff rigidity of various instruments for a quiescent geomagnetic field when primary variations occur as a result of chromospheric eruptions or various types of cosmic ray modulation effects.
