Abstract:
Two types of aluminas AD-94 and Lucalox bars were subjected to various quenching treatments designed to introduce residual macro surface compressive stresses and act as a strengthening mechanism. The resulting strain fields were characterized by utilizing single- and double-exposure X-ray diffraction techniques. Supplementary investigations including material characterization, X-ray diffraction elastic constant determinations, and transient thermal stress calculations were also conducted. Author
