Abstract:

The dimensions for the niobium L-band accelerating structure were determined by measurements on copper models. These measurements related the dimensions of cells in the structure to the frequencies and coupling factors in a chain of coupled lumped-circuits. Frequencies and coupling factors were computed for a chain of eight resonant circuits forming a superperiod of structure having the desired characteristics. The superperiod was then made up of copper cells corresponding to a multiperiodic construction module of eight cells. Final machining was carried out on the copper model to give the structure the desired operating frequency and axial field profile. Special cells were developed in the same way to form the ends of an acceleratin structure. This note presents perturbation measurements and field computations relating fields at various points on the axis and on the walls of the structure. Author
