The report discusses an investigation to examine the effects of fluid properties, hardware design, and hardware operating conditions upon a manifold filling transient in a vacuum. A literature search was used to identify the important variables and dimensional analysis used to arrange them into dimensionless groups. This approach served to reduce the number of test variables and enhance the generality of the experimental results. The number of dimensionless groups was further reduced through analysis and physical reasoning. An experimental program was conducted using water and Freon-12 flowing into a manifold of simple geometry. The important independent dimensionless groups were identified and a physical model postulated. Author
