The report presents some findings in a research project to investigate problems of subcultural differences in the prediction of job performance. Phase 1 of the project was an attempt to obtain an adequate picture of the effects of cultural factors on existing selection procedures. Seven independent studies were conducted in which the validity of commercial and industrially developed selection tests was examined separately for white and Negro subgroups of the population using the eleven different relationships. Occupational groups which were studied included toll collectors, correctional officers, toll facility officers, various clerical workers, and keypunch operators. A sample of inmates in a federal correctional institution was also studied.
