Abstract:

Guidelines for decontamination in postattack situations are developed for inclusion in a handbook type document to be prepared by the Office of Civil Defense. This document, which is expected to be used for preplanning and personnel training, will also be suitable for use by operational personnel. The guidelines are based upon analyses made primarily with the CONSTRIP V Computer Program. These analyses included consideration of facilities and their environments actually occurring in a large metropolitan area Detroit, Michigan as well as consideration of theoretical source-shield-detector configurations. Results indicate that effects of source field decontamination are significant for distances up to 200 feet from a facility. Author
