Abstract:

An x-radiographic technique was used to obtain profiles of molten Al2O3 menisci and pendant drops sealed in molybdenum of tungsten capsules. The surface tension was found to be 574 dynescm from the pendant drop shape and 360 dynescm and 638 dynescm from the meniscus shape technique in molybdenum and tungsten capsules, respectively. The density was found to be 2.92 gcu cm at the melting point. Author
