Abstract:
Mesospheric wind data taken over Ascension Island 7 deg 59 min S, 14 deg 25 min W in January and February 1970 are discussed. A January mesospheric-stratospheric circulation model was constructed using these and other winds to show that winter westerly winds extend into the summer hemisphere to about 15S at mesospheric levels, while summer easterlies extend into the winter hemisphere to about 20N at stratosphere levels. A strong southwest flow at 75 km indicated a cross-equatorial flow in the region of Ascension Island. Author
