Abstract:
The laser excited Ar 5145 A and He-Ne 6328A fluorescence spectra of iodine vapor have been obtained. It was found that the Ar 5145 A light excited primarily the 43-0 P12 and 43-0 R14 transitions, with approximately equal intensity. A small amount about 3 of fluorescence from an excited state connected with a v1 ground state having a high rotational level J or to 100 was also observed. The He-Ne laser excited primarily the 6-3 P33 transition, along with a small amount of the 11-5 R127 transition. The effects of collisional processes on the excited iodine molecules is quite marked, and accounts for the remaining features observed in the spectra. Author
