Abstract:

Measurements were made of longitudinal and lateral elastic waves in specimens of plexiglass, polyfluoroethylene, resin, textolite and AF-4S and RN-1 glass reinforced plastics at pressures up to 4000 kgsqcm employing a pulse ultrasonic method developed for the study of the elastic properties of rock. Linear relationship between the velocities of elastic waves and pressures were obtained for all plastics investigated. On the basis of experimental data the following elastic properties were calculated Poissons coefficient, Youngs modulus, modulus of shear and compression. Functional expressions for these elastic properties are given. The investigation shows that at pressures of up to 4000 kg sqcm plastics shown linear changes in elastic parameters brought about by pressure. Author-PL
