The effect of electromagnetic stirring ES on the process of the crystallization of a stationary 1250-kg ingot of 30KhGVT steel a steel that is prone to axial porosity along the entire depth of the ingot is investigated. Two melts of 30KhGVT steel and one melt of 30L steel were poured into molds. From each melt two ingots were cast, one with electromagnetic stirring and the other, control, without ES. It was established that inductive ES of molten metal in the mold did not - given the current intensity supplied - improve the macrostructure and density of the ingot. The tested inductive method of stirring molten metal in the mold did not - given the specified electromagnetic regimes - produce positive results it was observed that the conductive variant tends to improve the quality of the ingot, but the conducted investigations are insufficient to warrant recommending this method.
