The method of determination of th integral transform which is appropriate to remove a certain combination of partial derivatives from a partial differential equation which is subject to a variety of boundary or boundedness conditions is developed and applied to the equation which describes the axisymmetric torsional oscillations of a thin spherical shell. The Gegenbauer, the odd Gegenbauer, and the even Gegenbauer transforms, which are appropriate to solve the forced motion problems for a complete spherical shell, a hemispherical shell with time-dependent loaded edge conditions, respectively, are derived, and the general forms of the solutions are given.
