Abstract:
The Faraday rotation of lunar radio echoes was used to measure the ionospheric electron content from the trough to the peak of the current solar cycle. The smoothed average of the daily maximum values is found to be related through a linear regression equation to the smoothed sunspot number. Since the latter is predictable, the former can also be predicted. Diurnal and seasonal changes relative to this smoothed average can be estimated from the plotted diurnal curve corresponding to the sunspot number of interest. Author
