Abstract:

The development of integrated-circuit technology in recent years is the reason for a new method of treating the design of logic arrays, the so-called cellular technique. The article especially treats the cascade synthesis of logic functions, which forms the base of two-dimensional arrays as well. First of all the results of the functions of the synthesis by cascading cellules with one line and applying these cascades in two-dimensional arrays are surveyed. In more general two-line cascades there is first shown a method of synthesizing a single function, and then the authors new method of the simultaneous synthesis of a twin pair of functions with four variables. Furthermore a new arrangement of a twin line cascade controlled by a decoder is being suggested, which may be used for synthesizing functions of 4, 5 and even more variables. This cascade has a canonical shape and is therefore suitable for application in two-dimensional arrays.
