Abstract:

The proposed method of synthesizing phosphonitrile chlorides makes possible a sharp increase in the yield of crystalline homologs, with a predominante yield of the trimer. The method consists in reacting phosphorus pentachloride and ammonium chloride in a medium of inert solvents, with organometallic compounds used as catalysts. Organohalides of tin, germanium, and silicon can be used as such catalysts. Thus, in the presence of 0.5 mol. of dibutyl dichlorostannate the yield of crystalline homologs of phosphonitrile chloride reaches 90, with the mixture of crystalline products containing no less than 65 of the trimer.
