The amine chemistry of 4,5-dicarba-nido-hexaborane8, 4,5-C2B4H8, and its C-methyl derivatives has been examined. Both 4,5-C2B4H8 and 4-CH3-4,5-C2B4H7 from adducts with trimethylamine, but 4,5-CH32-4,5-C2B4H6 is relatively inert. 4,5-Dicarbahexaborane8 and its dimethyl derivative form 14 addition compounds with dimethylamine. The adducts decompose on heating to form dimethylaminoborane, bis-dimethylaminoborane and hydrogen. The non-volatile adducts of their thermal decomposition residues form dimethylaminodiborane but very little hydrogen on treatment with diborane. Author
