Abstract:
Bound to continuum transition probability for a square well oscillator under a collinear collision with an inert gas atom is derived using the first order time dependent perturbation theory. The continuum wave function of the oscillator is quantized by the method of box normalization. The theory is applied to the system He H2 to compute the dissociative probability as a function of total energy. This result is then discussed in relation to the dissociation of diatomic molecules.
