Abstract:

Seven pulps and several freenesses of one of the pulps were used to investigate the shrinkage that occurs during drying wet webs. Based on their initial dimensions, the webs decreased an average of about 28 percent in thickness and about 5 percent in width. Shrinkage characteristics were dependent on handsheet moisture content and the amount of fiber bonding. It was also found that pulping process, species composition, and wet or dry lap affected wet-web shrinkage. Author
