Abstract:

The displacement vector of the shell is expanded into a covariant series of powers of w, in extension of a formula given by H. Neuber w is the distance to the middle surface. For calculating the elastic energy, related to the middle surface of the shell, the displacement vector must be differentiated. The tensor, in such way generated, must be multiplied by the stress tensor, and the product must be integrated over the thickness of the shell. The derivations of the coefficients of the power series, drawn before the integral, may be referred to the strains, the change of the curvature and the shear deformations of the middle surface.
