In addition to the usual intersection of hyperbolic contours, geographic position can also be determined in OMEGA by advancing an assumed position to make the computed offset from the mean of the distances from three or more stations agree with the offsets from the mean of the phases of the signals from those stations. Plotting of position is essentially similar to reduction of celestial data, and the process inherently establishes an absolute clock time to within microseconds, so that a precision oscillator is NOT required on the vehicle. In Mean Phase Geometry, the phase tracking loops of the receiver follow velocity and acceleration with respect to the stations, directly, so that rate aiding, or OMEGA-Inertial Hybrid operation can be provided simply by resolution of air-mass or inertially derived velocities into components relative to the stations. The mean phase offsets must be corrected for diurnal shift and for earth oblateness, etc, and data from the newer Skywave Correction Tables, giving corrections for each path independently, can be used directly.
