Abstract:
The objective of the study was to determine the smallest angle that an object viewed on a television display could subtend at the observers eye and be detected or recognized as a target. Tests were conducted using both static and dynamic modes to provide a data baseline for the dynamic conditions simulating aircraft flight. Television field-of-view, target-to-background contrast and target background areas were varied for the detection and recognition tasks at briefed target positions. A significant finding of this study related performance to introduction of the dynamic factor. Author
