The theory of continuous deformable polar media is presented in two parts, the classical theory and the relativistic theory. For both cases, the kinematics, balance laws and constitutive theory are examined and used to develop an elasticity determined through a function basis. Several fundamental problems dealing with the nonrelativistic elasticity are solved. Author
