Abstract:

The colorimetric determination of low concentrations of hydrogen sulphide and soluble inorganic sulphides in effluents has been studied. To avoid interferences the hydrogen sulphide must be stripped from the acidified sample and re-absorbed in an alkaline solution. A special apparatus has been designed for this purpose. The possibilities of determining methanethiol on the same sample have been investigated. The precision and accuracy were found to be satisfactory for the hydrogen sulphide determination whereas results for methanethiol were less precise owing to certain interferences. Author
