Abstract:

Specific objectives of this investigation were To measure the velocity of compressional waves hereinafter called sound velocity or velocity a in consolidated and unconsolidated sediments cored from the Gulf of Mexico To investigate the physical and mechanical properties of these sediments To examine the possibility of utilizing sound velocities to predict the physical and mechanical properties of these sediments and To formulate porosity, bulk density, and velocity versus depth relationships for unconsolidated sediments in the Gulf of Mexico.
