The study was designed to explore the relationship between the centrality-of-self in the phenomenal field, as it is symbolically represented and three personality dimensions personal adjustment, self-confidence, and defensiveness. A two-group repeated measures study was done using United States Navy enlisted men of comparable intelligence, education, age, and marital status. A centrality-of-self score, the distance between the center of the field and the center of the self circle in millimeters, and a Z score on each of the three personality scales were determined for each of the fifty-nine subjects. An analysis of the results indicates that there is sufficient evidence for some support for the first experimental hypothesis, but not the second and third. Some of the reasons for this lack of confirmation were discussed. Author
