Abstract:

A procedure has been developed for simultaneously measuring plasma volume PV, red cell volume RCV, and total body water TBW. The total blood utilized is 10 ml., with a total body exposure dose of 27.52 mrad. The procedure was tested on eight normal male subjects, and the mean results were RCV 26.21 ml.kg., PV 52.69 ml.kg., and TBW 643.4 ml.kg. The mean RCV, PV, and TBV total blood volume were, respectively, 4, 8, and 12 of the TBW--from which the percentages for each subject varied only slightly. Author
