The construction of a 2.5 cm diameter glow discharge shock tube is described. An outline is given of the expected behaviour of the yellow emission from combining nitrogen atoms when subjected to shock waves. Preliminary experiments show that the expectations are not fulfilled for there is a rapid increase in emission after the shock passes. The emission then diminishes rapidly. No interpretation is given as the effect is not yet understood the work is still in progress. The remainder of the report gives the usual information on personnel, grants, publications etc. Author
