Abstract:

Bovine kidney flow rate-pressure drop measurements obtained in the laboratory were compared to live dog kidney flow rate-pressure drop values to show important differences in the fluid flow resistances. The viscous fluid flow pressure drop model was used to compare the relative flow resistance in the important areas of a human kidney. A heat transfer model was described for use in predicting the time-temperature behavior and cooling and heating rates in organ perfusion as applied in possible future organ storage. In connection with a nerve graft regneration survey, an investigation of the magnitude of neurothermic effects during a nerve impulse indicated that this effect appears to be too small to be of practical value.
