The purpose of the research is to discover and develop powerful methods and principles by means of which a computer program which has little or no documentation can be easily documented by a human programmer with the assistance of a computer. The report discusses the problem of the documentation of computer programs presents some estimates of industry loss due to the inaccessibility of inadequately documented computer programs develops the concept of a simulator-analyzer SA computer program which simulates the computer and analyzes an undocumented working binary program gives a complete computer program for an SA with some 350 machine language instructions and demonstrates how this SA works on a number of simple examples. The report also begins to analyze an undocumented dynamic degugging program of some 1700 machine words and applies methods of cryptanalysis to deciphering the symbol table in the debugging program.
