This Report describes the construction andthe operation of a catapult capable of accelerating a test object such as a parachute or other deceleration device up to 350 ftsec, through a distance up to 300 ft. The catapult consists of a 1000 ft long 3 inch circumference nylon rope placed in tension with one end connected to the test object. When the object is released the relaxation of the rope accelerates it rapidly up to the test speed, which is maintained for approximately 0.7 sec. Author
