# Abstract:

Interpretation of gravity in terms of an ether flow makes it possible to separate the metric coefficients which describe the intrinsic properties of space and time from those that describe the gravitational field. This separation, in turn, suggests a large-scale invariance in the gravitational field which is quite similar to the one that exists in the electromagnetic field in the special theory. The infinitesimal form of the generalized Lorentz transformation is determined in a Newtonian field by the fact that the three-dimensional geometry remains Euclidean under the transformation. The finite form is then determined so that the transformations form a group, and the group is found to be the usual Lorentz group. The transformation is then extended to apply to fields which are not necessarily Newtonian. Author
