Abstract:
Diploid human fibroblasts will not divide in the absence of serum macromolecules weighing between 50,000 to 100,000. They are not species specific. These macromolecules have been purified from serum about 10 fold so far. The further purification of these materials and their subsequent characterization is being attempted. The extracellular compartment of skin contains non-dialyzable macromolecules which will inhibit this serum produced stimulation of diploid human fibroblast mitosis. The mitotic stimulation by serum can be titrated with these connective tissue mitotic inhibitors. Author
