Abstract:
An analysis of the adaptor clamp of the USAMBRL fiberglass-epoxy drop-foot brace was conducted to determine whether the adaptor width could be reduced and still maintain sufficient strength to perform its function. The strength was found to be adequate when the adaptor width was reduced from 58 inch to 38 inch, and the setscrew depth was increased from 516 inch to 38 inch. The weakest portion of this brace appears to be the soleplate tab and even this is adequate for an intended use of 3 years or 15 million cycles. Author
