Abstract:
The studies described in the report clarify the effects of some of the limitations imposed by the laws of thermal similitude, and determine the thermal modeling laws for a heat pipe. In Volume 1 solutions were presented for the steady-state temperature distribution and heat transfer in a radiating fin having temperature dependent thermal conductivity. Using these solutions, modeling prediction errors were determined for fin type prototypemodel systems with dimensional distortions, with material having temperature dependent thermal conductivity, and with low prototype temperatures. In volume 2 the thermal modeling laws for a heat pipe were derived and experimentally verified. A flexible heat pipe was also designed and experimentally tested. Author
