Abstract:

A test stand for experimental evaluation of air directing structures in turbines is described. The air is drawn by a vacuum pump through the filter, the Laval nozzle, the structure being tested, and into the air outlet. The inserts allow the adjustment of the nozzle for a desired ratio of the critical to the output cross section of the nozzle, while the rotation of the test structure together with the protective glasses, as well as the adjustment of the inserts with respect to the body of the aerodynamic tube, establishes the required angle of air-flow to the structure and the size of the gap between the structure and the outlet of the nozzle. The operation, calibration, and the results of tests are extensively discussed. Photographs of supersonic airflow through the channels between buckets are included. Author
