Abstract:
The effect of LSD on E. coli was examined as a test system for damage to genetic material. LSD had a dose-dependent effect on bacterial growth rate. This effect was not amplified by the DNA-repair inhibitor caffeine. The lowering of the growth rate by LSD was shown to be completely reversible upon dilution. LSD was shown to cause a dose dependent extension of the growth recovery lag due to UV damage. Caffeine caused a much larger extension of this lag time.
