Abstract:
A theoretical investigation of the mean properties of a fully developed turbulent pipe flow was carried out. The analysis was divided into three phases the wall region, the core region, and the matching procedure. In the wall region the generalized eddy viscosity of Kleinstein AIAA Journal, Vol. 5, No. 8, 1967 was applied and led to good agreement with experimental data for velocity distribution, turbulent distribution and energy dissipation functions. In the core region an eddy viscosity model was derived and led to good agreement when compared with experimental data for velocity defect law. Energy dissipation functions in this region fall below the experimental data. The matching of the region resulted in a complete description of the flow field in a pipe and in particular led to a friction law. Author
