Abstract:
A study was made of the feasibility of a plastic ampoule for use in a reserve battery. Containers were thermoformed from thermoplastic sheet stock and filled with electrolyte, which was completely encapsulated by heat-sealing a plastic disc container. Convetional techniques were used to plate these ampoules made from a pigment- filled polypropylene exhibited the lowest permeability. Future work will be directed toward an attempt to lower th the permeability and to design plastic ampoules for the PS-117 and the other small fuze power supplies. Author, modified-PL
