Abstract:

The subject gun was subjected to two extended bursts of extremely rapid fire. The temperature existing at the surface of the bore at the conclusion of these firings was computed to be near 750 F400 C. Several star-gage records of this gun are compared and an estimate made from them of its probable accuracy life. It is estimated that the accuracy life will be 1068 rounds instead of 2500 rounds, if erosion continues to progress at the same rate as during the rapid firings. Author
