Abstract:
Experiments and analyses between 1966 and 1969 on the behavior of objects buried in dry sand added information on shape effects at blast overpressures from 14 to 250 psi to the previous information about mass effects. Two shapes cubic and triangular prismatic, each at two different massesgreater and less than the encompassing soil, were tested. Shape had no discernible effect on relative displacement between buried objects and the soil. Shape had a greater effect than mass on accelerations experienced by the buried objects, with the objects presenting a flat face to the stress wave receiving the greater acceleration. Author
