Abstract:
The electrode less spark sound source is an impulsive electro-acoustic transducer. It generates a broadband impulse which is typically several tens of microseconds in duration. The electrode less spark principle is described, and the results of parametric studies presented. It is found that the device is long lived, its emitted pressure waveform can be readily controlled, the emitted waveform is extremely reproducible, and the bubble pulse emission can be virtually eliminated. A discussion of several specific device configurations relates the waveform of the emitted pressure to both the electric and the geometric parameters used.
